Appearing will be  Bridgit Mendler (Good Luck Charlie), Ross Lynch of (Austin & Ally), Spencer Boldman of (Lab Rats) and Maia Mitchell (Teen Beach Movie) originally from Lismore, NSW.

The FanFest event will include the Australian premiere screening of Teen Beach Movie, followed by an after-party featuring live performances by Mendler and Lynch.

In order to attend Disney Channel FanFest, kids will have to win double pass tickets through a variety of mechanisms, including Disney Channel viewing and online competitions, radio and magazine partner promotions, and Foxtel and SKY NZ viewer competitions.

The Disney Channel stars will spend several days taking in the sights around Sydney. In addition, Mendler will visit Melbourne, and Mitchell will visit New Zealand. There will be multiple opportunities for fans to see and interact with the stars, including online chats, autograph signings and the Red Carpet leading into Disney Channel FanFest, which will take place at Hoyts and The Hi-Fi in Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park.

Amidst the spontaneous song and dance, there’s trouble in paradise — it’s bikers versus surfers for control of the local hangout, but Mack and Brady unwittingly interfere with the movie’s star-crossed plot.

Disney’s ‘Teen Beach Movie’ Hangs Ten with Brands

[Via Variety.com...]

Given previous hits like 'High School Musical,' marketers flock to latest Disney Channel Original Movie

Marketers typically shy away from pairing up with films unless they’re based on an existing — and already popular — property. But with hits like “High School Musical,” “Camp Rock” and “The Cheetah Girls,” the Disney Channel Original Movie has become enough of a brand magnet on its own.

To help hype the release of next month’s “Teen Beach Movie,” Disney Channel has lined up Best Western and Honda, who will both launch pricey nationwide ad campaigns for the surf-rock musical. The hotel chain’s campaign will also stretch into Canada.

The film is essentially Disney Channel’s homage to the beach-set musicals of the 1960s like “Beach Party” and “Beach Blanket Bingo,” that starred former Mouseketeer Annette Funicello, as well as “Grease” and “Austin and Ally.”

Directed by Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel’s “Geek Charming”), “Teen Beach Movie” revolves around high school friends who find themselves transported into their favorite movie, “Wet Side Story.” David Lawrence (“High School Musical”) produced the score.

Retailers including Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kohls, Kmart and Disney Stores also are ready to fill store shelves with “Teen Beach Movie” merchandise, with each getting their own product lines that spans apparel, home decor, dolls, bedding, lunch kits, books, stationery and school supplies aimed at 6-14-year-olds.

Taking a bet on an unknown property is risky — especially with merchandise featuring characters kids don’t yet know. But Disney Channel has been able to tout the success of its previous pics and popularity of stars it has cast in “Teen Beach Movie” to attract partners.

Over the past 11 years, Disney Original Movies have ranked as TV’s top film among tweens. Nearly six years after its premiere, “High School Musical 2” is still the No. 1 scripted cable TV telecast of all time with 18.7 million total viewers.

The “Teen Beach Movie” cast also includes Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell and Grace Phipps, stars of Disney Channel hits “Austin & Ally” and ABC Family’s “The Fosters” and “The Nine Lives of Chloe King.” Ross also headlines the band R5.

Those elements enticed Best Western to return and promote a Disney Channel film for the sixth time (it started with “Camp Rock”), while “Teen Beach Movie” will mark Honda’s fourth (that kicked off with “High School Musical 2”).

“When you have companies coming back four and six times, it’s because it worked,” said Rita Ferro, executive VP, Disney media sales and marketing. “It’s a Disney Channel Original Movie and that’s a franchise for us that’s consistently been the number one movie on cable year after year.”

Both Best Western and Honda will launch TV, radio, online, mobile and social media ads, and sponsor sweepstakes for the film, which premieres on Disney Channel on July 19. The film bows even earlier on July 15 to registered users of the WATCH Disney Channel app on mobile devices and WATCHDisneyChannel.com.

As part of its deal, Honda will get a sponsored by credit on the film, repeats and its planned sing-along special. The automaker will also create a co-branded destination on DisneyChannel.com, which will promote the company’s Odyssey minivan.

In addition to its planned marketing, Best Western will sponsor episodes of “Austin & Ally,” to extend its association with Lynch, and a portal on Disney.com that will enable kids to create mashups of “Teen Beach Movie” content to share with friends.

The movies “aren’t only about kids,” Ferro said. “It’s about the cross-family audience. The audience reach is so broad. It’s an entry point for multiple generations.”

The partners should also be able to benefit from their tie-in with the homevid release, as well, which will debut exclusively at Walmart on July 19, and at most other retailers on July 30, close to its TV bow.

A soundtrack becomes available July 16 from Walt Disney Records that features 12 songs plus three instructional bonus tracks offering up dance lessons.

Disney Channel also is producing a 10-city “Teen Beach Movie Beach Party” event tour at Simon Malls, Radio Disney events in 31 markets across the U.S., and is tossing out seven foot “Teen Beach Movie” branded beach balls at One Direction and R5 concerts across the U.S.

Disney Channel is primed to unleash Seacat, Giggles, Rascal, Lugnut, Struts, Butchy, Cheechee, Tanner, Lela, Brady and Mack via today's iTunes pre-order of the surf-rock/pop soundtrack for "Teen Beach Movie," an exuberant song, sand and surf fest set inside a retro beach party movie. The storyline depicts how 1960s sensibilities motivate a modern girl to affirm her capability, strengths and goals.

The television premiere of "Teen Beach Movie," a Disney Channel Original Movie sponsored by Honda and Best Western International, is FRIDAY, JULY 19 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel U.S. followed by telecasts on Disney Channels around the world. It will be available Monday, July 15 to verified users on the WATCH Disney Channel app and WATCHDisneyChannel.com.

Made for kids age 6-14 and their families, the summer splash includes event telecasts, a soundtrack from Walt Disney Records in stores nationwide on Tuesday, July 16, licensed product spanning apparel, home decor, fashion dolls, bedding, lunch kits, stationery/school supplies and more available at Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kohls, Kmart, Disney Stores and other retailers, a junior novel and e-book, themed stickers, frames and filters in the brand new Disney Channel Photo Finish app, a 10-city "Teen Beach Movie Beach Party" event tour at Simon Malls, "Teen Beach Movie" activities and prizes at Radio Disney events across the U.S., seven-foot "Teen Beach Movie"-branded beach balls at One Direction and R5 concerts across the U.S., and the "Teen Beach Movie" DVD with exclusive video available July 19 exclusively at Walmart, and on July 30 at retailers nationwide.

"Teen Beach Movie" introduces confident, resilient surfer McKenzie and her carefree boyfriend, Brady, a fan of the retro surf musical movie, "Wet Side Story." On the morning of McKenzie's planned departure for boarding school, she and Brady catch one last epic wave which mysteriously carries them right into "Wet Side Story," circa 1962, where they meet Seacat, Giggles, Rascal and Cheechee, among others. Amidst the spontaneous song and dance, there's trouble in paradise -- it's bikers versus surfers for control of the local hangout, but Mack and Brady unwittingly interfere with the movie's star-crossed plot, one that would pair a surfer (teen matinee idol Tanner) and a biker (Lela, the sister of Butchy, the biker gang's leader). Typical of the teen beach movie genre, a kooky subplot has mad scientists Les Camembert and Dr. Fusion scheming to alter weather patterns and take over the local hangout -- and then the world.

Directed by Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel's "Geek Charming," choreographer of "A Chorus Line," "Flashdance") and choreographed by Hornaday and Christopher Scott ("Lemonade Mouth," "Step Up 4"), the movie includes retro hairstyles and make-up (by Loida Jeannot and Dominique Borrell, respectively), richly-hued vintage wardrobe designed by Oscar nominee Ruth Carter ("Amistad," "Malcolm X") and other inspirations of the '60s. The score is by David Lawrence ("High School Musical"). The production design is by Mark Hofeling ("High School Musical").

The story is by Vince Marcello (director, featurette version of the off-Broadway musical "Zombie Prom," and "An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars") & Mark Landry, and the teleplay is by Marcello, Landry and Robert Horn (writer of "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," writer of Broadway's "13" and writer/producer of "Designing Women"). David Buelow ("Bring It On: Fight to the Finish") is the executive producer and Robert F. Phillips ("Teen Spirit," "Valkyrie") is the producer. "Teen Beach Movie" is a production of Rainforest Productions, LLC.

The movie stars Ross Lynch (Disney Channel's "Austin & Ally") as Brady, Maia Mitchell (ABC Family's "The Fosters") as McKenzie, Grace Phipps (ABC Family's "The Nine Lives of Chloe King") as Lela, Garrett Clayton as Tanner, John Deluca as Butchy, Chrissie Fit (ABC's "General Hospital") as Cheechee, Jordan Fisher as Seacat, Mollee Gray (Disney Channel's "High School Musical") as Giggles, Kent Boyd as Rascal, William T. Loftis as Lugnut, Jessica Lee Keller as Struts, Kevin Chamberlin (Disney Channel's "Jessie," Broadway's "The Addams Family") as Dr. Fusion and Steve Valentine (Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie," Disney XD's "I'm In The Band") as Les Camembert. Suzanne Cryer is Aunt Antoinette and Barry Bostwick makes a special appearance as Big Poppa.

The multiplatform schedule is:

DISNEY CHANNELS WORLDWIDE PRESENTS PLAN TO BUILD ON ITS STRENGTH AT ANNUAL MEETING WITH ADVERTISERS

– Disney Junior Series are Tops, More Added to Popular Line-up;
24-hour Channel Will Begin Reporting Nielsen Ratings April 1, 2013 –

– Disney XD Booms, Expands its Popular Marvel Universe Block –

– Disney Channel Grows with Original Movies, Live Action and Animated Series, and Exciting New Cartoon Shorts Starring Mickey Mouse –

– Disney’s WATCH Apps Deliver More Than Half a Billion Video Views –

Buoyant after another year of record-setting ratings, Disney Channels Worldwide affirmed its plan to further build its creative and ratings strength, its audience engagement and its valuable multiplatform sales opportunities, today at Disney Media’s 2013-14 Kids Upfront presentation. Held at New York’s Hudson Theatre, many sponsors and advertisers attended the event with their children.

The evening included musical performances by the global sensation Bridgit Mendler (star of Disney Channel’s “Good Luck Charlie” and a Gold-certified Hollywood Records recording artist) and popular actor and Hollywood Records recording artist Ross Lynch (“Austin & Ally,” “Teen Beach Movie” and the band R5) who performed his Radio Disney hit song, “Can You Feel It.” The show opened with a performance by Radio Disney’s N.B.T. (Next BIG Thing) season five winners Chloe & Halle. Crash, the mischievous puppet star of Disney XD’s sitcom “Crash & Bernstein,” crashed the presentation. Special on-stage appearances were made by teen superstar Laura Marano (“Austin & Ally”) and newcomer Dove Cameron (of two upcoming Disney Channel projects, the movie “Cloud 9″ and comedy series “Liv & Maddie.”)

Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “We remain focused on delivering distinctively Disney quality programming to kids and families around world and are invigorated by the remarkable viewer response we’ve seen across all key demographics over the past year.”

Marsh announced that the 24-hour Disney Junior channel, which accepts select sponsorships, will begin reporting Nielsen ratings as of April 1, 2013. The channel marks its first anniversary this month.

The daily Disney Junior block on Disney Channel has emerged as the leader with four hit series for kids age 2-7 and their parents: “Doc McStuffins” (cable TV’s #1 series of 2012 among Kids 2-5, Girls 2-5 and Boys 2-5), “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” (each Top 3 contenders in Kids 2-5 and Boys 2-5) and the new series “Sofia the First” (the #1 cable TV series for both of its two months among Kids, Girls 2-5 and the #1 preschooler cable TV series in Total Viewers and Women 18-49. November 2012′s premiere of “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” was the #1 telecast in cable TV history in Kids 2-5 and Girls 2-5, and #1 preschooler cable TV telecast ever in Total Viewers and Women 18-49).

Marsh also told advertisers that Disney XD will expand its Marvel Universe programming block with two new animated series, one starring the hugely popular super hero The Hulk and another starring The Avengers. For 2012, Disney XD soared to its biggest year in the channel’s history (including its 10 years as Toon Disney) with original series including “Lab Rats,” “Kickin’ It” and “Crash & Bernstein,” and the animated Marvel Universe series “Ultimate Spider-Man.” Disney XD posted yearly ratings records (in both Primetime and Total Day) in Total Viewers and its targeted kid and boy demographics, 2-11, 6-14, 6-11 and 9-14, rising by solid margins over year-ago results. Marvel’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” season two debuted in January 2013 and to date, is Disney XD’s #1 animated series in Kids and Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11.

At the event, Marsh presented the first in an exciting series of cartoon shorts starring the endearing, adventurous and funny antics of Mickey Mouse, one of the most popular characters in the world. Produced by Disney Television Animation, the “Mickey Mouse” shorts preview beginning today, TUESDAY, MARCH 12 exclusively on Disney.com and will begin rolling out FRIDAY, JUNE 28 on Disney Channel, Disney.com and WATCH Disney Channel, among other platforms.

Rita Ferro, executive vice president, Disney Media Sales and Marketing, leads Disney’s powerful kids media sales enterprise through which marketers reach every part of the youth demographic and increasingly, a co-viewing Women 18-49 demographic. Ferro commented on the transformative ways in which audiences are engaging and extending the viewing experience. Disney Channels’ free WATCH apps — WATCH Disney Channel, WATCH Disney Junior and WATCH Disney XD — have logged more than 12 million downloads and over half a billion video views.

Ferro said, “Our programming is woven fully into the lives of kids, moms, dads and caregivers – who connect with our characters and stories across Disney Media, linear TV and otherwise. They watch it, listen to it, play with it and own it.” She continued, “Disney’s WATCH apps are game changers and provide our clients with another powerful way to reach our audience and connect their brands to Disney’s quality programming.”

Disney Channel made history with its 2012 #1 rank in Total Day among Kids 2-11, the primary demographic for advertisers (breaking the competition’s 17-year record at #1). Disney Channel, which accepts select sponsorships, was also the #1 TV network in Total Day among Kids 6-11 for the second consecutive year, and was #1 for the fourth year among Tweens 9-14. In Primetime, Disney Channel was #1 for the twelfth consecutive year in Tweens 9-14 and for the tenth straight year in Kids 6-11, and was among the Top 2 cable networks in Total Viewers for the seventh consecutive year. The blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise produced TV’s #1 movie among Tweens 9-14 for the past 11 years.

The exciting 2013-14 slate also includes new episodes of the hit sitcoms “Good Luck Charlie,” “A.N.T. Farm,” “Jessie,” “Austin & Ally,” “Shake It Up” and “Dog With A Blog,” and the animated series “Gravity Falls” and “Phineas and Ferb” for Disney Channel; and new seasons of the Disney XD series “Kickin’ It,” “Lab Rats,” “Crash & Bernstein” and “Ultimate Spider-Man.” The upcoming new projects are:

Liv & Maddie (working title) – 17-year-old newcomer Dove Cameron plays the dual role of identical twins in this upcoming sitcom. Ms. Cameron will also star in “Cloud 9,” a Disney Channel Original Movie premiering in 2014 (see below). The series was created by John Beck and Ron Hart (both of “According to Jim”). John Peaslee, Andy Fickman (“The Game Plan,” “Race to Witch Mountain”) and Betsy Sullenger are also executive producers. Cameron plays identical twins — an outstanding student and school basketball phenomenon whose popularity is on the rise until her twin sister, a television star, makes a triumphant return to their Wisconsin high school. Also starring are: Benjamin King, Kali Rocha, Joey Bragg and Tenzing Norgay Trainor.
