First Look: Disney's Friends for Change Ambassadors (Ross Lynch & Laura Marano) Spread Conservation Message
[Via thewaltdisneycompany.com...]
By Alex Liakos, The Walt Disney Company Corporate Citizenship
Today, I’m excited to give you a first look at the new Disney’s Friends for Change Ambassador spot, featuring Ross Lynch and Laura Marano from Disney Channel's Austin & Ally. The Disney stars joined TreePeople—a nonprofit dedicated to growing a sustainable future—to connect kids with nature and create green spaces at San Pedro Elementary School in Los Angeles.
More than 100 local students and Disney VoluntEARS planted 350 trees and gardens at the school. The project was made possible through a $100,000 grant from Disney that will also be used to liven up other campuses and educate more than 20,000 students across Los Angeles about how to green their homes and communities.
As part of Disney's commitment to protecting the planet for future generations, Friends for Change offers online tools and resources to help families connect with and conserve nature.
We hope the new video will help inspire kids and families to champion 500,000 initiatives that help the environment —from planting native trees to hosting cleanup events. If you want to take action, log on to Disney.com/Friends and make your pledge today!

Disney Supports National Preparedness Month with $1 Million Donation to American Red Cross (Disney Channel TV Spot featuring Debby Ryan)
[Via thewaltdisneycompany.com...]
By David Gill, The Walt Disney Company Corporate Citizenship
Here at Disney, we’re recognizing National Preparedness Month this September by setting out to empower kids and families to prepare for disasters and other emergencies.
Disney is building on its long-standing relationship with the American Red Cross and is a proud member of their annual disaster giving program. This year, the company has provided a $1 million grant to support youth services, volunteer engagement programs and disaster services.
Disney and Red Cross are spreading the word about the importance of being ready for emergencies as well as three easy steps everyone can take to prepare: Get a kit. Make a plan. Be informed.
That’s also the theme of a new video featuring Disney's Friends for Change Ambassador Debby Ryan and Red Cross Youth Club volunteers. The video provides young people with specific actions they can take to prepare for a disaster and also encourages them to help friends and neighbors get prepared too.

Three weeks ago, I shared a first look at a Disney’s Friends for Change Ambassador spot on leadership, featuring Disney Channel stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya (Shake It Up) and their time spent at a leadership academy outside Tucson, Arizona. Today, I’m excited to debut their second
Friends for Change video where, together, the girls help kids just like them find their voice and stand up to bullying.
The video shares the compelling stories of young kids whom have either been bullied or witnessed a friend experiencing the same treatment. Bella also talks about her personal struggle overcoming dyslexia and the taunts of classmates. With the support of experts, the academy participants gain confidence, and learn how stand up for themselves and others.

First Look: Disney Friends for Change Ambassadors Spread Anti-bullying Message
[Via: Alex Liakos, The Walt Disney Company Corporate Citizenship...]
Bullying is an important issue for all of us at Disney, including some of our biggest stars.
As part of its Friends for Change program, Disney Channel stars serve as Ambassadors, encouraging kids and families to stand up for what they believe in and to make a lasting, positive change by helping people, communities and the planet.
Premiering on Disney Channel today, Bella Thorne and Zendaya, stars of the hit Disney Channel series Shake It Up, host the first of two on-air segments that chronicle the time they spent at a leadership academy outside of Tucson, Arizona, and show their efforts to spread a message that champions individuality.
You get the first look at the spot right here:
In addition to the on-air interstitials, Friends for Change offers online tools and resources to help kids and families stand up to bullies. Actions include starting a club with new friends, learning about different cultures and sharing positive messages.
To date, Disney Friends for Change kids in 55 countries around the world have championed almost five million initiatives, including nearly 600,000 cleanup events protecting oceans and waterways, recycling projects involving two million participants and 200,000 projects specifically focused on bringing families together to volunteer.
While I wasn’t directly involved in the creation of these videos, I couldn’t be prouder to help spread this message.
In my role in Corporate Citizenship at Disney, I get to be a part of some amazing programs like Friends for Change, Magic of Healthy Living and many of our philanthropy initiatives. Check back often to find out more about these programs.

Disney Channel will present new interstitials featuring Bella Thorne and Zendaya, Disney Friends for Change Ambassadors and stars of the hit series "Shake It Up," as they learn techniques to inspire positive leadership and take a stand against bullying at the Free the Children Leadership Academy. The interstitials will be presented in rotation beginning FRIDAY, AUGUST 17 on Disney Channel.
Over the course of three days, Zendaya and Bella participated in a series of workshops designed to give youth leaders a deeper understanding of their leadership styles and empower them to walk away, knowing that they have the power, through their actions, to change the world. Each of the participants will be responsible for training an additional 20 youth in their community with the same skills, ultimately impacting 1,200 youth across the country.
To coincide with the on-air interstitials, Disney Friends for Change will offer tools and resources at www.disney.com/friends, where kids and families can discover additional ideas on how to make a difference by learning about different cultures, starting a club with new friends and sharing positive messages.
