First Look: Disney Friends for Change Ambassadors Spread Anti-bullying Message
[Via: Alex Liakos, The Walt Disney Company Corporate Citizenship...]
Bullying is an important issue for all of us at Disney, including some of our biggest stars.
As part of its Friends for Change program, Disney Channel stars serve as Ambassadors, encouraging kids and families to stand up for what they believe in and to make a lasting, positive change by helping people, communities and the planet.
Premiering on Disney Channel today, Bella Thorne and Zendaya, stars of the hit Disney Channel series Shake It Up, host the first of two on-air segments that chronicle the time they spent at a leadership academy outside of Tucson, Arizona, and show their efforts to spread a message that champions individuality.
You get the first look at the spot right here:
In addition to the on-air interstitials, Friends for Change offers online tools and resources to help kids and families stand up to bullies. Actions include starting a club with new friends, learning about different cultures and sharing positive messages.
To date, Disney Friends for Change kids in 55 countries around the world have championed almost five million initiatives, including nearly 600,000 cleanup events protecting oceans and waterways, recycling projects involving two million participants and 200,000 projects specifically focused on bringing families together to volunteer.
While I wasn’t directly involved in the creation of these videos, I couldn’t be prouder to help spread this message.
In my role in Corporate Citizenship at Disney, I get to be a part of some amazing programs like Friends for Change, Magic of Healthy Living and many of our philanthropy initiatives. Check back often to find out more about these programs.

Exclusive Video: Disney XD’s Crash & Bernstein Adds a Loud-Mouthed Puppet to a Family Sitcom
[Via www.wired.com...]

Disney has come up with a way to expand the humorous possibilities in typical sitcoms, and it looks promising: They’re taking a fairly typical Disney sitcom family and adding a very Muppet-like puppet character.
Now, if you’re like me and grew up in the ’80s, your mind probably just went right to ALF and cringed a bit. Let me ease your mind: Crash, the puppet character, is not an alien and I’m guessing will probably not be interested in eating cats.
The premise is that 12-year-old Wyatt Bernstein is the only boy of the four kids in his family, and feels overwhelmed by his sisters at home because they have each other to share “girl” things with but he has no brother to share “boy” things with. When he’s taken to a “Build-A-Bestie” store for his birthday, he creates Crash, who magically comes to life. You know, as such things often do.
Crash becomes the brother Wyatt wanted, of course, but he doesn’t know anything about being a part of a human family. So Wyatt helps Crash with that, while the loud-mouthed Crash helps pull Wyatt out of his shell.
I haven’t seen a full episode of the show, so I can’t tell you if it works or not, but this promo video for the show is pretty funny. The Bernstein family is played by a mix of veteran actors and newcomers (including Cole Jensen, who plays Wyatt). The man behind Crash is Tim Lagasse, a veteran puppeteer, puppet builder, and filmmaker, who has worked on shows such as Sesame Street, Between the Lions, and Johnny and the Sprites, among many others.
Crash & Bernstein will premiere in October 2012 (the specific date has yet to be announced). This promo video will air on Disney XD starting tomorrow at 6:23pm ET/PT — this is the ONLY place you can see it before then. Enjoy!

Disney XD Orders Comedy Pilot Starring Zach Fox, Taps YouTube Star To Host Series
EXCLUSIVE: Boy-centered channel Disney XD has greenlighted a comedy pilot starring YouTube personality Zach Fox. In it, 18-year-old Fox will play a fictionalized, younger version of himself, Zach Fox, a high-school sophomore who anchors his own show on the school’s student-run TV station. The project combines semi-improvised and gonzo-style man-on-the-street segments in the same outrageous style that Fox uses in his videos. David Nickoll (The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson) executive produces the pilot, which is now casting to begin production in October in Los Angeles. It’s a Laugh Prods. will produce.
Additionally, Fox also will host Disney XD’s upcoming hidden camera prank series, Just Kidding, in which everyday kids pull off humorous pranks on unsuspecting adults. In addition to hosting, in each episode of the Canadian series, slated for fall, Fox himself will do his own prank.
Berwyn, PA native Fox drew the attention of Disney XD programmers with his YouTube videos — improvisational interviews, comedic shorts, musical parodies and several web series including Limelight, The CHeeSe and Stoga Gone Wild. They contacted him for an overall deal and developed the pilot or him. Here is one of Fox’s man-on-the-street bits, in which he often wears thematic costumes.

EXCLUSIVE Interview with Bella Thorne!
THE MAGAZINE caught up with Bella Thorne, who plays CeCe from Shake It Up. Here’s what she had to say!
Who would be your dream guest star on SHAKE IT UP?
I Am 5. They’re so great and I’d love for everyone to get to see them on SHAKE IT UP!
SHAKE IT UP: MADE IN JAPAN wasn’t actually filmed in Japan. If you did get a chance to go to Japan, what would you be most interested in seeing or doing?
I would really want to go shopping because the style over there is just so different. Japanese fashion plays a big part in the movie’s storyline. I would also want to try the sushi!
What was your favourite part about filming the movie?
There were actually two things. There’s this one part where Rocky and Cece are in an all-out friend war, which was really interesting to act because Zendaya and I never fight. It was fun to see a different side of our characters. Also, we got to film a scene where we were singing in front of an audience. We had head mics and everything. I’ve never done that before!
It’s clear by what you wear that you have an amazing sense of style! What, in your opinion, is the biggest fashion crime someone could commit?
I don’t think that there are any fashion crimes. As long as you like what you’re wearing, as long as you’re comfortable, who cares if you’re not on any of the best dressed lists? It’s important to stay true to yourself and wear what you like.
Thanks, Bella!

Sure, we've interviewed Bella Thorne and Zendaya a bunch of times because we're pretty much besties, but this time was different. This time, we (well, our host Cat) got to go to the set of Shake It Up and hang out with the gals backstage as they filmed the episode, Shake It Up: Made In Japan, which is an epic three-part finale. Wowzer. So see what B+Z told us about Japanese culture, their upcoming duets (like this recent one!), and Zendaya's booming music career. What a coincidence that just yesterday news broke about her record deal! Awesome timing.

Zendaya Spills Shake It Up Movie Deets!
In a new interview with Seventeen Magazine, Zendaya discusses the
upcoming Shake It Up! Made In Japan special along with talking about her
off camera friendship with Bella Thorne. Check out what Zendaya had to
say.
Seventeen: What is Shake It Up: Made In Japan about? Spill it!
Zendaya Coleman: In the movie, our characters win a dance competition where they get to go to Japan and make a video game. My character really wants to see the sights and experience Japanese culture, but Bella’s character is more into the stardom aspect. That causes some drama between us. I’m really excited for the movie because we don’t just dance in it, we sing too. My favorite song in the movie is one Rocky and Cici sing during karaoke. It really shows off our voices.
17: Does the movie have a lot of Japanese fashion?
ZC: There’s a big song for the finale where I wear a classic, Betsey Johnson dress. It’s edged up with a mini letterman jacket and some really cute Doc Martens that were actually custom-made for the movie. They have little black crystals on them and are so cute. I wish I got to keep them!
17: Are there any other fun surprises we can expect from the movie?
ZC: The Blue Man group is in it! They were really fun, but kind of creepy! We never saw them without their makeup on. Bella kept trying to get them to break character and let us touch their makeup, but we weren’t allowed to because it’s oily and comes right off!
17: You and Bella are such good friends and hang out on-set and in real life. What are some of your favorite memories with her?
ZC: It’s impossible to choose just one! We make memories every day and everywhere we go, it’s just shenanigans. Something always happens. I think the secret to a really great friendship is just creating fun memories whenever you’re with that person.
17: Do you ever get sick of each other?
ZC: Bella is a surprise every day. That’s the best part of our friendship. She’s very bubbly and bright, and I’m more mellow, so we are kind of like our characters in a sense. We fit together so well because whatever I lack she has and whatever she lacks I have.

Bridgit Mendler's 'Ready Or Not' Music Video to Premiere on Disney Channel August 10
[Via Pop Crush...]
Bridgit Mendler, star of the Disney Channel’s ‘Good Luck Charlie,’ will drop ‘Ready or Not,’ the first single from her debut album ‘Hello My Name Is…,’ on Aug. 3 via Radio Disney. The song, which blonde beauty Bridgit even co-wrote, will be available for purchase on Aug. 7.
“I have been writing songs since I was six years old and I’m thrilled to finally share my songs with the world,” the songwriting vet, 19, said in a press release.
The song is an uptempo pop gem with a little bit of soul woven into the mix, thanks to its sampling of The Delfonics ‘Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love).’ The tune not only celebrates finding someone special, but it also reveals Mendler’s approach to life as she knows it.
Mendler had a singular mission with the song and that was to empower her fellow females. She said, “I wanted to write something that was empowering for girls. I consider myself to have been that girl sitting on the curb waiting for the world to notice.” The song is a metaphor for Mendler’s life and we have a feeling she’s going to be noticed even more once her single lands.
The accompanying vid was shot on multiple locations in Los Angeles and will feature performance footage combined with a city-wide scavenger hunt narrative. It will premiere on Aug. 10 on Disney Channel.
